Our Story

A bit about Bud and Walt…

HISTORY

Our ingredients are fresh, but our pizza recipe is over forty years old!  The doors to a little pizzeria west of Chicago opened in the spring of 1964.   Good friends, Bud and Walt, created a stir with the delicious square cut pizza that you’re able to enjoy today.  From the first dough rolled, these hand-made pies were a hit.  Bud and Walt’s pizza place enjoyed many years of pleasing pizza lovers until their retirement.

Fortunately for you, the tradition and recipes have been revived!  Thanks to our hand-made dough, unique sauce and specially seasoned ingredients, our pizza stands for quality and delivers an unbelievable taste that is unmatched.  When your pizza, built just for you, emerges hot and crisp from the oven, we give it our signature square cut for you to enjoy.

Also from the original menu, we offer great-tasting Italian beef and sausage sandwiches which are truly a Chicago mainstay.

Today at Bud and Walt’s, we have an expanded menu that includes a variety of salads, soups and pasta dishes.  We also have a great line-up of beverages and desserts, with our very own house coffee blend that we call Windy City Coffee.

We hope you will enjoy your experience and come back to see us often!

MISSION

Our mission at Bud & Walt’s is simple:  to deliver to you, our customer, the highest quality, best tasting food available accompanied by great customer service, all at an honest price.

PURPOSE

Bud & Walt’s Pizza and Pasta House Nixa was opened with the purpose of generating funds for Christian mission work.  Jim Rogers, his wife Ruth (Walt’s daughter) and Leon Fisher collaborated together to open the Nixa restaurant with this as their motivating force.  Jim and Ruth were with Pepsi International in Russia when they met Leon.  Leon was serving in Russia as a missionary.  After 12 years of ministering in Russia, Leon was forced to leave the country.  It was at this time that Jim and Ruth approached Leon with the idea of resurrecting Bud & Walt’s famous recipes and opening a restaurant to generate funds to support not only the ongoing mission in Russia, but potentially other countries, including the United States.

To this end, Bud & Walt’s Nixa exists.  Currently Bud & Walt’s Nixa donates 50% of its net profits to Christian missions.
